Gaming Desktops – Which One is For You?

If you are in the market for a gaming desktop, you may have gotten confused by the specifications, advertising comparisons and dueling claims.

It is easier to buy a gaming desktop if you first decide what you want in the way of gaming capability. Then let the experts tell you whether you need a custom PC or a standard configuration. The basics are simple. If you want to play video games with software or online, your gaming desktop must have enough memory, speed and graphics capability and slots for SLI and crossfire cards.   

If you decide to design a custom computer, you don’t need to build it yourself. Armed with the information about your gaming requirements you can call to order a PC, order a custom PC online or go to a retail store and give the list to the clerk.  

First, you will need to choose a processor brand. You don’t need to be an expert to do this. All you have to do to choose the appropriate foundation for a gaming desktop, you can go online and review the specifications and intended use of each type of processor. Those that are good for gaming desktop processing will be specified as such.

You need to choose the type of gaming card you will use as well. NVidia or ATI card choices will drive your choice for the motherboard. Motherboard manufacturers only support one type of gaming card.  

If you think you want to expand your system later instead of buying a new gaming desktop, you will want to plan for expansion so you have multiple gaming card slots ready for that expansion.  

Next you’ll have to consider RAM capacity. Are you playing 32 or 64 bit games? That will make a difference in the speed and display of the game.  

When choosing a drive, you’ll need a SATA drive instead of an ITE drive. And you’ll need a significant power supply to power your games and your gaming desktop.
